Hug a Tree!
During lunchtime at my hospital, some of the inpatients from the psychiatric unit will hang out in the courtyard. A few weeks ago, I noticed one of the patients HUGGING a tree and my initial thought was “Whoa, that’s odd!”🧐
BUT, as a life long learner, my curiosity was peaked and I decided to look it up!
LO and BEHOLD, there are lots of benefits to hugging trees and it wasn’t so offbeat after all!!!🌳
Just goes to show that there is always something to learn😍 👩🏽🏫
Benefits of HUGGING a tree
🌳Release of oxytocin-hormone of love and trust- gives a warm fuzzy feeling
🌳Reduces cortisol levels resulting in decreased blood pressure and heart rate
🌳Connects us to nature which grounds us and improves our mental, emotional and physical health.
⏸Take a PAUSE and find a tree you can hug. Step as close to the tree as possible (make sure to wear clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty) and lean in so that as much of your body is in contact with the tree as possible. Put your arms around the trunk, rest your head on the trunk, close your eyes breathe deeply and let the feelings of connection course through you🌳 It’s very restorative🌳🌳🌳
