DISARM your Elephant by REDESIGNING 🎨

👩🏽‍⚕A few years ago, one of my patients had bilateral mastectomies with reconstruction. Every-time she looked in the mirror or was intimate with her husband, the scars were like the “elephant in the room” reminding her of her painful cancer ordeal. Not long ago, she returned to see me and there was a lightness about her, an air of excitement almost. She was bursting to share- “I have the most beautiful tattoo she said. She lifted her shirt and there on her reconstructed breast, was the most exquisitely beautiful tattoo that I had ever seen. I could not even make out her scars.

Being honest with her feelings

 Embracing the discomfort

Fostering self-compassion and empathy

Reconfiguring the relationship with her elephant by using HOP #1-there is always a solution, work to find it! She creatively redesigned and now she was no longer fearful or intimidated, but rather felt joy whenever she looked at her elephant🌞
